and Fredericknewspost.com?
A: The ELECTRONIC EDITION is an exact replica of the print edition available
and delivered through our home delivery carriers or on sale in vending machines
and retail outlets. It does not contain advertising inserts, as not all will be
available electronically from advertisers. It is available only through annual
paid subscription.
Fredericknewspost.com contains the day’s top stories and local breaking news
stories. There is no fee for access to the site.

Q: When I log in to the Electronic Edition, I get
a screen that is asking whether I have dialup connection or broadband
connection. What is this?
A: Dialup connection through a modem is a much slower connection speed and is
not optimal for viewing the electronic edition. This screen tells us that you
need a version optimized for that slower connection. We strongly recommend
using a broadband connection for the best connectivity and enjoyment for your
subscription.

Q: Are the advertising inserts available online?
A: Not at this time. Links to advertising inserts will be made available as
they are obtained from advertisers.

Q: When I call up a story through the Electronic
Edition, what are my viewing options?
A: Click on View in the story window. “Newspaper View” displays the story just
as it appears in the newspaper, with columns and photos in place. “Quick View”
is a text view of the story and photos. You can e-mail or print the story in
either mode. Just use the icons at the top of the story for print or e-mail.
Back top Top
Q: The text is too small. How can I make it
larger?
A: You can expand the type size in Quick View if you are having problems
reading the story. There is a range of sizes for your viewing needs. You can
enlarge the page itself by clicking on the icons in the upper right, but
stories are meant to be clicked on.

A: My Collection, an icon in the story window, allows you to save the story to
a clipboard for later reading. The story will stay in your Collection until you
remove it. You may want to clip event schedules, advertisements, coupons, or
other newspaper items to use later. Please note: My Collection uses cookies,
which do not travel from computer to computer. In addition, if you clear your

about the Frederick Keys?
A: The Electronic Edition makes it easier than ever to find specific coverage

such as Frederick Keys or Keys, and links to any coverage will appear, no
matter what section they are in. You can search just that day or the last two
weeks.

crossword puzzles and comics be printed out?
A: Yes, simply click on the element you want to print, and click on the icon of
the printer at the top of the toolbar.

another user?
A: Yes you can. Just click on the feature you want and select the e-mail icon.

Q: I prefer following text links to stories,
rather than paging through an entire section or edition. How do I do that?
A: The Table of Contents, or TOC, is located toward the top of the left hand
navigation bar. This tool provides headlines and summaries of key elements on
the pages. Just click on the headline to go to the story. The TOC is a fast way
to breeze through the ELECTRONIC EDITION edition, closely resembling text links
on a web site.

Q: I’m on AOL. Why am I having difficulties
viewing the electronic edition?
A: Due to a browser limitation, AOL users must initialize the browser window
first before starting to navigate the Electronic Edition. To initialize the
browser window, simply resize the browser window once. NOTE: Some versions of
the AOL browser will not display the electronic edition. If you are able to log
in but pages won't load, please try this corrective action: Dial in to the
Internet as usual using your AOL connection. Then close the AOL browser and
open your default Internet Explorer browser (or Netscape, if you prefer it). Go
to ELECTRONIC EDITION login page and sign in as usual. The pages should load
correctly.

Q: When I signed up you collected personal
information. Is that information being offered to any third parties?
A: No. This information is for internal use only. Those who sign up will
receive emails from The Frederick News-Post on occasion. You have the option to
indicate you prefer not to receive promotional email.

Q: Can I download the entire paper as a PDF?
A: PDF, or high-resolution image, is primarily for users who want to download
the entire paper for offline viewing later. Most users would find a
high-resolution view to be too taxing on your computer for regular use. The
news pages and individual articles and ads are already optimized for Web
viewing. But if you want to download a PDF of the paper, you will need to have
Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.
Back top Top
Q: Does the download of the PDF take a long
time?
A: On broadband connection, the download for an entire edition typically takes
about 10 minutes. On a dialup connection it could be as long as 45 minutes.
Back top Top
Q: I can't see the whole page on my screen. What
do I do?
A: If you cannot view the entire width of the page, find a scroll bar along the
bottom edge of your Web page. You can scroll right or left to view more of the
page. You also will be able to navigate up and down using the scroll bar on the
right edge.
